Pedal start starts when you hit the gAS pedal, and the engine stops when you come off. key start, it starts and has a idle like a regular car.
Club car 1997 - 2011 key start engines use engines with ACR (Automatic Compression Relief valve) The ACR lowers the initial start up compression for easier starting via the key switch. After 2011 they no longer use the ACR feature at all.
The neutral lockout switch has two positions, MAINTENANCE and OPERATE.
• Pedal-start vehicles: When the switch is in the MAINTENANCE position, it will allow the technician to run the engine in the NEUTRAL position to perform certain maintenance and/or repair functions.
With the switch in this position, the vehicle will not operate if the Forward/Reverse handle is placed in either the FORWARD or REVERSE position.
• Key-start vehicle: When the switch is in the MAINTENANCE position, it will allow the technician to run the engine in FORWARD, REVERSE, or NEUTRAL for certain maintenance and/or repair functions.
However, if the Forward/Reverse handle is in either the FORWARD or REVERSE position and the accelerator pedal is pressed, the engine will stop running.
WARNING
• With the switch in the MAINTENANCE position and the engine running, the vehicle may move suddenly if the Forward/Reverse handle is shifted or accidentally bumped. To prevent this, chock the front and rear wheels and firmly set the park brake before servicing or leaving the vehicle.
NOTE: Pedal-start vehicle: Be sure to return the switch to the OPERATE position after servicing the vehicle, or it will not run with the Forward/Reverse handle in either the FORWARD or REVERSE position.
Key-start vehicle: The switch must be returned to the OPERATE position after servicing is complete, or the engine will stop running when the accelerator pedal is pressed, and the Forward/Reverse handle is in the FORWARD or REVERSE position.

Many key start carts have a relay and two micro switches. One micro switch is on the shifter and is often the cause of stalling when pressing the pedal. The other is located on the maintenance/Run switch.
The second micro switch is located on the yellow maintenance/Run switch. It is located on the back of the shift lever operated by the yellow knob. If the knob is in the wrong position the engine will only run in neutral.
It needs to be flipped over for the engine to run in F or R.
If it has a maintenance/Run switch make sure the switch is working and that it’s in Run when trying to drive, or Maintenance only when in Neutral for testing.
If a micro switch is bad will cause the engine not to run.
